Did you know that the oldest operating cotton gin in America is located in Burton, TX? Since it’s construction in 1914, the cotton gin here has been producing quality cotton, powered by a 1925 Bessamer engine. The engine itself is the largest of its vintage still operating in the country.


Visitors can enjoy the Museum onsite which educates about the history and impact of the cotton gin. In addition, there is an opportunity, by special request, to explore the Wehring Shoe Shop & Residence that offers a glimpse into the history of the cobbler trade in the early 19th century.
