ABOUT US

We never thought that we would live in the country or own a Lodging and Event Venue. It all started with a simple Saturday drive from Houston to view the wildflowers that cover the countryside. As we were ending our wonderful day of viewing the bluebonnet covered highways and roads to Round Top, Texas we decided to drive through one more small town, Burton, Texas.

Driving through the town we spotted the cutest quaint country cottage that was for sale. We stopped and decided to call the realtor. We never intended to buy, but were just curious. One month later we closed on that property and we moved in to our weekend getaway. Never say never! That’s how we do things, we follow our heart and act on it. We began vintage and antique shopping to remodel, renovate and decorate. We could not have been in a better area to shop. Round Top has one of the largest antique shows in the US twice a year. We soon found a passion for vintage and antiques and repurposing them.

We settled into our country life and begin to make friends in the area. Rob became enamored with our country life but restless with our 2 acres, and off we went for another drive to “just look” at acreage in the area. Seven short miles from our existing home we came upon 20 acres of raw land with a “For Sale” sign. We jumped the gate and Rob fell in love–not so much myself. And yes –one month later we closed on our property, which was to be the beginning of The White House on the Hill. Rob worked on the property every weekend, clearing and planting trees. He was laughed at by the neighbors when he planted 5 pines trees which they said would never grow. They are outside of the Guest House today growing stronger every year. Rob was spending every minute at the property while I was staying at the cottage. Our goal was to have a getaway to be together and we were not doing that. We decided to sell our Burton cottage and focus on our new found land.

New Paragraph

We travelled the back roads and found a historical home which we wanted to move on to the property. After researching and finding out the expense and difficulty in moving this historical home and renovating it, our builder, Barney Reynolds of Round Top Builders, suggested he could duplicate the historical home. He suggested we could use reclaimed wood, antique beams & doors and other reclaimed materials and have a new home without the possible inherent issues of an old home. Our dream of living in the country overlooking the rolling hills was now our reality.

We had always wanted to move an old country church and renovate it into a living space. We found that historic churches do not come up for sale often and probably not acceptable to walk up and say “we want to buy your church”. Rob decided to design our own church and drew the plans what was to become our first lodging venue called “The White House on the Hill”. We both believe that by following your heart, dreams can become your reality.

Following the success of The White House on the Hill and receiving requests for additional space we constructed the newest venue, The Barn at The White House on the Hill. It is a 2800 sq ft lodging/event venue with an enchanting design of the french country fused with the grandeur and romance of old historic barns and the modern conveniences of today. We specialize in creating unforgettable experiences for you and your guests.

Rob and I have 5 grown children between us and 5 grandchildren. We have both worked in the medical field, but are now retired. Rob is a Chiropractor, but now devotes most of his time to maintaining the property and the vineyard. I am an artist and interior decorator and love helping people create livable yet stunning living spaces. We have recently begun another chapter in our life where we love providing an elegant country retreat for our guests to leave their stress behind. It is our passion and goal to offer each guest the ultimate country experience. I have a saying if we are going away from home, it should be as good or even better than our home.

Everything about The White House on the Hill has been thought out with love and consideration to detail with luxury and elegance in mind.

We are also excited to announce our new Elopement and Intimate Wedding packages.

We welcome you into our world to Renew, Reconnect, and Refresh.
