The White House on the Hill where  Art & Faith Collide Retreat

Welcome to The White House on the Hill – When Art & Faith Collide Retreat Information and Deposit Page.  Please take a little time to read all of the information prior to making your deposit.

Creativity is a God-Given ability to take something ordinary and making it into something special.  We are all created of many Bits & Pieces to make us who we are, there is not another one of us anywhere in the world and we are special.  As in Art and Crafts it takes many Bits and Pieces to create.

There is something special that happens when Art & Faith Collide and do you know what happens when you get a house full of women, faith,  food, coffee, snacks, (wine)  paints, jewelry and creating.  Something Amazing!!! We need time to  restore, be quite, rest, stay up late, wake up early or sleep in, wear your pj’s all day if you want and take time for yourself.

There are not words to explain what happens…and for sure Jesus shows up every single time.

Here is what is included in the Art & Faith Collide Retreat:

Stephanie Ackerman

I am an ordinary girl living an extraordinary life where I get to do what I love for a living.

A mom of two extremely handsome boys, a wife to an extremely handsome husband, a neighbor, a sister, a daughter and I love making things.

I am a regular girl who love’s GOD, family, friends, my church and being Home Sweet Home. I really am a simple girl that sometimes complicates things and I am a little bit sarcastic and sassy at times.

I love Chips & Salsa, crushed ice cubes in Styrofoam cups and Fuji Apples. I love going to bed at night and waking early to have coffee with Hazelnut creamer.

My purpose is to create, inspire, teach and encourage others through creative arts. I love to make stuff because God created and gave me specific gifts and talents. HE is the reason for my ART so that is why you will always see (or maybe not see) a Heart in my work.  Sometimes I create using paper or sometimes it is with batter, fabric, dough, paint, wood or a little of each.  When asked how long I have been creating, I reply that it started at birth.  My very first project was when the nurse stamped my lil tiny baby foot in ink and stamped it on my Birth Certificate.

Growing up, I sewed Barbie Clothes, made forts with sheets and blankets, stitched patches on my sash, created pot holders and latch hook rugs, stitched sit-upons, baked cookies, cakes, mowed lawns, cleaned houses…pretty much you name it, I have made it at one time or another…except for welding.  I do not know how to weld.

At any given moment I might be praying, doodling, running, baking chocolate chip cookies, doing laundry, trying to match socks, doing more laundry, organizing piles, at the airport or coming home from the airport, stitching, taking a nap (which I do every day) or all of the above.

I invite you to take a peek into my wildly creative and blessed life on my blog at: www.homegrownhospitality.typepad.com

I am a mother of 2 sons and Rob’s 2 daughters and Son and have 3 grandchildren.  I feel like I  live a double life. I am Register Nurse First Assistant with my own practice and own Skin Care Line with a Plastic Surgeon in the City for half the week.  The other half of the week Rob and I own a B&B  – The White House on the Hill,  is a luxury B&B complex just outside Round Top, Texas.  If that’s not enough, we also have a 300 Tree Olive Orchard to eventually produce our own olive oil. It all started with something to share with our family and friends, but evolved in too much more.   Our intention is to provide a special place for our guest to come to relax, restore, and get close to nature and God.  We have made the accommodations very special.  You have a view of the Texas rolling hills, a pond, 300 tree olive orchard, sunrises and sunsets that are spectacular, stars that are so bring at night you can see the milky way.  It is important for us to provide a memorable and special stay.  One of my passions is traveling and my motto is, if I am going to leave my home, it should be better or as good, why leave home if it is not.  I have always had a creative side and passion for art has only grown over the years.   I seem to always have to have my hands busy, from painting, different types of art, bible journaling, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, crafting, decorating or reading a great book.  I have always strive to be closer to God, people and art and what a better way than to combine all in a special event.  I hope to retire from nursing in the near future and move full time to the country to commit all of my energy to the B&B in creating Retreats, Art and Pop Up Olive Oil Dinners.

Glynda Oliver

Married, two adult children, eight grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, Graduate of the University of Houston and most important a Psalm 139 woman.

Bible teacher of all ages

Ministry leader of “God Uses Bits & Pieces” which uses the medium of jewelry to relate that   as a whole jewelry is beautiful take it apart and we are left with a bunch of Bits & Pieces.    Sometimes the world likes to take us apart leaving as a bunch of Bits & Pieces.

God uses the analogy of the beauty in jewelry to help us to know how beautiful He created each one of us.

When we come together, we open God’s Word and study the many women of the Bible to understand this phenomenon.

It is my privilege to be a part of this amazing journey.
